A fun, energetic speaker for Jesus Christ!
When you read the title (if you gave it any thought) you may have said to yourself, “murderers, child molesters, thieves, adulterers, etc.” I’ve heard people say, “At least I’m not as bad as _____ (insert name).”
Would you be surprised if you knew that God sees you as the same sin wise? Yes, you are just as bad as those “bad” people. God doesn’t use a scale to decide if you are good enough to enter Heaven. You see, no one is good, not even one person is truly good in God’s eyes without salvation. (Psalm 14:3, Romans 3:12) Sin is sin is not just a saying, but means that all sin is bad to God.
Sure, you are a good person as far as the standards of the world. But, you have done bad things. During your life you have lied, disobeyed your parents, gossiped, cursed (perhaps even using God’s name) to list only a few. Even just one of these is bad enough.
One of my favorite verses is found in James 2:10 “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.” That means that even one sin–one “tiny” sin, will keep you out of Heaven and a relationship with Jesus Christ.
So wait, does that mean we need to be perfect? NO! If it did, no one would make it into Heaven. We just have to be sorry for our sins (repent) and accept Jesus Christ as our Savior. He died for us and took the punishment we deserve (yes, all sin deserves punishment). Then we need to go to Him with any sins we commit going forward from salvation. This forgiveness is not for salvation, but instead to maintain and strengthen the relationship you have with Him.
Because believers in Christ still sin! Yes, but if you are a true believer in Christ, you will feel bad when you sin and will go to God about it. You will not live with your sin and be comfortable doing it. (We can fool ourselves for a time.) You cannot lose your salvation, but if you keep sinning without repentance, then you may not be saved.
Harsh words, I know.
But the truth is that you aren’t any better than a murderer if you don’t have the Lord Jesus Christ. Both of you will be headed to the same place after death and will have to live without His peace and forgiveness here on earth. So, realize you aren’t any better than anyone else and that you need Christ just like all of us!
