A fun, energetic speaker for Jesus Christ!

Not Everyone is God’s Child

Even though we have been married over 15 years, I love it when my husband refers to me as “my wife.” He was just talking to a technician for our t.v. system and started a sentence with the words “He told my wife…” It made me smile and it always does.

This got me to thinking about how Jesus calls me His child. The people who don’t know the Bible use phrases like “Everyone is God‘s child” but not everyone is God’s child. Yes, He created people but only the people who have received his salvation are truly His children. “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.” John 1:12-13

I’m not special, anymore than anyone is special. So sometimes I think about how I don’t deserve His salvation. I try to be a good person and think of others but sometimes I am just selfish and lazy. There are times I just don’t want to anything for anyone but me.

But being His child isn’t about being good or doing the right things, it is about faith. Thank the Lord! There is no way I can do enough to earn my salvation. You can’t either. Being a good person doesn’t get you into Heaven, going to church doesn’t get you into Heaven, feeding the poor doesn’t even get you into Heaven…nothing except faith in Jesus Christ. The truth is that I don’t deserve salvation, no one does but Jesus Christ took our penalty for sin so that we could be saved.

Of course I should mention that God does like us to do good works. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” Eph 2:10  We are to do good works and represent him well and most of all, tell others about Him so they can be called His children too.

Thank you Jesus for calling me yours.
